Graysby Grouper

Mike H. and I threw the trolling motor on my boat and headed for the Brownsville ship channel yesterday. Very calm and very hot. Tried the old causeway first but found nothing and moved up the channel. There was not a lot of water movement so we did not find any snook but hooked up on a few snapper, and this guy. I believe it is a Graysby.
We were using Flip Pallot's "Prince of Tides" which are a pain to tie and the snappers destroy it fairly quickly, but, it is easy to snake through a mangrove after an errant cast. And it is a great snook, jack and snapper fly.

Apparently, Grouper like it too.
