Fishing with Everett

Everett comes from up New Mexico way. He's 70 years old. I was shocked when he told me that yesterday, on his last day of a three day stay at the Kingfisher Inn.

He fished with me last year and he is a fun guy to fish with. He has a curiosity that is usually lost by most as they age. He is nimble on a bouncing boat and can cast a fly very well. I certainly hope to be in his shape at that age.

This fish tailed up for us early yesterday morning on a grass flat, just in front of a pot hole. Before we could set up on the fish, he went down and we didn't have enough sun to see where he went. I suggested to Everett that he should cast into the pot hole, as it was possible the fish moved there. His cast ended up well short and 4 feet to the right. The fly hit the water and there was an explosion as he came tight to the fish. What a take. As the saying goes, I'd rather be lucky than good any day.
